Sharing the passion inherited from her Salish grandmother for creating containers and wearables from the forest, Jessica Casey offers this one day introduction to cedar bark weaving. You will learn the basics of checkerboard weave basket and twining techniques. Accent the basket with a decorative band of birch or sedge grass, finish it off with a traditional rim. This is the prerequisite for other more advanced basket workshops.

Satyajit Ray's first film (1955), Pather Panchali is a legend. Filmed on a meagre budget with an almost entirely novice crew and cast, it went on to win a prize at Cannes in 1956, and is still on many critics' "top 100 films" lists. Based on a classic Indian novel about growing up in rural Bengal, the film portrays the daily life of a poor Brahmin family. When the father, a struggling poet/playwright, leaves for the city to pursue his writing career, the mother must find ways to make ends meet while caring for her aged aunt, mischievous daughter, and sensitive son. The film was scored by a young and unknown musician-Ravi Shankar. Bengali with English subtitles
