Congratulations to all those who lobbied for amendments to the Farm Gate sales regulations!
The Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport has issued a press release announcing new graduated licensing that should restore some reasonableness for local farmers.

This was legislation that targets farmgate sales to fix a mass meat production problem. The new classifications are bull**** as they only allow up to 25 "animal units" per year - does that include fowl? Big difference between a cow & a chicken. The legislation does nothing to protect us from Maple Leaf. The corps don't want farmgate producers to show them up. I also see this as more red tape for those that don't contribute to Gordo's warchest. I also don't see this as helping me to put Saltspring Lamb on my plate again. The producers can only sell "within the boundaries of the regional district where the meat was produced" Once again, the only lamb that I can buy is from New Zealand. — John Monday, April 26, 2010
