Slippery and crunchy Current Conditions Thursday, April 03, 2008
The Dakota ridge access road is slippery and crunchy from 6kms up. You may get up without chains but you'll likely need them coming down. From Lot B to the quanset hut is also crunchy although our friends on skidoos have broken it up for us. Temp was 0 celcius. Tele turns up in the clear cut were hard - tough to get an edge on crust. Trails have been broken up in many places by skidoos.

Dakota Ridge Sunday April 6th 2008 Current Conditions Sunday, April 06, 2008
Only two of us on the Ridge today save one snow mobile. Snowed all day, wet snow--trees full, wet but very skiable snow. Road in terrible conditions. Made it up with my 4-wheel drive Masda van with locking differential without chains, but just. Road will further deteriorate quickly without more maintenance. Still missing hub cap.

Tet road and Victor's Landing Current Conditions Monday, April 07, 2008
7 of us headed up to Victor's Landing on Sunday. we drove with chains and 4x4 to within 1.5kms of the top then gave up as the ruts were really deep and we were dragging the diff. As we were skiing up the road, a couple of guys in a big pick up blasted past us, foot to the floor, making huge ruts and throwing snow at us, but they did make it to the top.
We skied all day around Victor's enjoying 6-8' of new snow. It was quite heavy and difficult to turn in and it was snowing lightly all the time. We were able to ski the centre of the road down but when we got back down to our vehicle about 4pm it was raining there.

B&K and Elphie Trail Current Conditions Monday, April 07, 2008
Snowmobiles are the only vehicles to have made it past km6 (where fortunately it's easy to park) for a long time now. Past there it's easily skiable to km8, or beyond to the bowl. Elphie trail is mostly in great shape and snow bridges are holding out well, though they're sinking and getting steep. There's so much snow still on the trail, and on the mountain in general, (10-15 feet by the first lookout) that the upper alder canopy is now a bit of an obstacle, where 3 weeks and 3 feet ago the trail was nice and clear. West Ridge trail is a pleasure, and there are great views to be had on the upper road (Highline). The routes should be skiable for at least the next month.
B&K good to km6 for 4wd without chains.

Lots of new snow on the mountains Current Conditions Wednesday, April 09, 2008
Seymour has had lots of snow in the last week I imagine even more on our mountains. Guess the road to Dakota is a bit of a rough ride. Temps have been cold up top and snow not melting much so it could be around till june. Hope the great reports of last week keep coming in if anyone goes up. Wish road was plowed as I do not have 4x4. Oh well next year we will have a new road that should be plowed I gather.

Ski/Snoeshoe the Ridge Before Road Degrades Current Conditions Sunday, April 20, 2008
Nice conditions today, especially off the trail in the cutblock to the west of the main route: firm, with enough dry powder to made skinning up a pleasure. Great views over the Straight between bouts of frigid winter white-out conditions. Lots of animal tracks. The old groomed trails are a nice, smooth, soft, tour.
Road is a little hairy for the last km before LotB. Definitely not for low-riders, as ruts are deep. I chained up 4cyl Toyota 4Runner with crap tires just before the last hill, but all others made it without. The only reason it is still drivable is that the mud is FROZEN. When temps rise and the week of rain that is forecasted happens, this road will be HELL.
Ski/snowshoe now while the snow is still good and the road is drivable above LotA.

Dakota Ridge - April 23 Current Conditions Wednesday, April 23, 2008
Good snow coverage from Lot B all the way up. Over 6 feet of snow still at the warming hut, with new snow falling on us today. The road to lot B is rutted and requires a fairly high clearance vehicle and 4X4. Still weeks and weeks of skiing left...
