Just back from a great trip to Steele. Snowing above Edwards when we left, on top of crusty conditions. I guess it rained and then got cold. Could walk around without snowshoes. Edwards lake getting slushy in spots open at the creek. Cabins in great shape. Road down to dirt except a bit of ice at very top. Nice work Snoman!

Snow Fest is coming! We are building a snowman family to promote Snow Fest on Saturday March 15. Tomorrow At 10 am at the park at the corner of Warf and Cowrie in Sechelt we are going tro build a snowman family. This will be great fun for Kids and adults alike. Show your creativity. It is a lot like making a sand castle. We can get everything we need from the thrift store. I will bring a small truck load of snow and if we can find another person with a pickup truck to help we will have enough snow for a large family of snowmen.

Fresh on DakotaFresh on Dakota
Current Conditions Friday, March 06, 2009

We were skiing in a mini-blizzard Wednesday night on the Ridge. It was hard to see more than 10 feet in front of us (which helped make every sudden changes in slope an exciting event!)

It was eerily weird, spooky, scary and fun, all at the same time. It's likely beautiful up there right now.

The road up to the Tet is in great shape, 4x4s with chains are in order as usual. The conditions are good in the park today, the temperature was -2 C at the winter lot this morning. There are a few inches of fresh powder on top of a hard crust and the snow is still falling. Be sure to check avalanche advisory and carry the appropriate equipment for the terrain you are travelling in. Have a great time!

Current Conditions Saturday, March 07, 2009

Road clear, lots of gravel in most spots.
Easy up with all wheel drive, but icy going down, almost slid off the road, stopped just in time and got the chains on quick. Other cars without chains were also sliding out. Watch out for cars sliding down into yours.

Went showshoeing from the trail halfway up (to the left), virgin snow, quiet on trails, great up there. Started light snowing around 2:45.

Snowfest 2009Snowfest 2009
Current Conditions Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Snowfest 2009 will be held at Dakota Ridge on Sunday March 15 from 10 am – 2:30 pm.
A jointly sponsored event by the SCRD and the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club, Snowfest is
fantastic celebration of winter activity here on the Sunshine Coast. Demonstrations and
events will be held throughout the day, including- a cross-country ski loppet (fun ski
race), demonstrations from the new Jackrabbit youth ski program, equipment
demonstrations from local companies, and fun family events.
The Sechelt Rotary Club will again supply food services for Snowfest.
Hot food and an array of cold and hot beverages will be available for purchase.
If you need to rent cross-country skis for the day, please do so off-site prior to snowfest.
Last year’s snowfest was incredibly successful, with hundreds of people attending. One
major challenge for this year will be access to Dakota Ridge and parking. In order to
minimize traffic congestion on the mountain roads please adhere to the following
guidelines:
- Carpool wherever possible. The mountain roads leading up to Dakota Ridge will
be controlled on March 15 for snowfest. A very limited number of vehicles will
be allowed up to the top parking lot early in the day with full occupancy only. All
other vehicles will be parked at a lower parking lot and visitors will be shuttled to
the top parking lot using a network of shuttle vehicles. There will be an access fee
of $2 per person.
- Maximum capacity for this event will be less than 500 people. Come early to
ensure that you will have access.
- Be prepared for the weather. The snow is still falling in our mountains- please
bring appropriate clothing for a day of fun on snow. If you are driving up to take
the shuttle- ensure that your vehicle is prepared. Snow and ice can make for
difficult driving conditions. Chains and / or four-wheel drive may be needed.
- Please be patient with the staff at Snowfest. The volunteers will be doing their
very best to bring you an excellent experience.
- Please leave your dog at home for snowfest.
All events and activities for snowfest are free of charge. For more information- please
check the Dakota Ridge page on the SCRD website.

Spent the weekend up at Tet. Sun was blazing on Mon. on the way up to Edwards cabin. Close to two feet of the lightest fluffiest powder ever on Mon. when we came back down. Brilliant weekend as it always is when a group of us head up there for our annual get away. Thanks to the Snowman for making it possible for us to get back down the road with all the fresh snow.

The Sunshine Coast Snowseekers have just recently donated $500.00 to the Tet outdoor club as well $500.00 to the SCRD for plowing and keeping the parking lots open. This money was raised by the snowmobile club for purposes like these. Everyone that uses the Tet. road should thank 'MR.SNOWMAN'aka The Snoweater, he does a great job keeping that road open. v.p.SSCSS

I already miss itI already miss it
Current Conditions Thursday, March 12, 2009

A group of 6 snowshoed, skied and splitboarded their way up to Steele this last weekend. Conditions were amazing with the sun making a visit every day. Crossing Edwards lake was a piece of cake, just aimed for the island and had no troubles, there was about 3 inches of snow on top of the ice. Edwards lake cabin was in good shape with about 8 inches of snow on its roof. Wood supplies are great and made the cabin warm up nicely. Trail conditions on the way in were a bit crusty but after Saturdays dusting of snow it was soft and stable. The trail up to Steele was well marked and we made it up in around 3 hours, making sure to avoid the avalanche prone areas. The cabin at Steele is in great shape as well and we were happy to find some frozen water already in the melting pot on top of the stove, thank you. We stayed up at Steele for two nights and enjoyed a couple of excellent sunsets. We placed a geocache in the corner on the lower level of the cabin. There were approximately 3 feet of snow packed around the cabin and slightly less around the outhouse. We woke up Monday morning to find 16 inches of fresh pow, some of the fluffiest I have ever set my boots on. All in all an amazing visit. Thank you TOC for all of your hard work and a special thanks to Cavin who had the road freshly plowed for our drive down around 3pm.

Edwards tripEdwards trip
Current Conditions Sunday, March 22, 2009

Tet road in morning is rough and frozen so you don't need chains to get to top. In the afternoon it's mushy and slushy and you don't need chains to get down either. A little fresh snow on a hard crust offers little forgiveness to the teleskier that wipes out. The avalanche corner just past Victor's Landing shows recent snow rollers but no slides of significance. Sunny skies. Edwards lake still frozen and good to cross. The whiskey jacks are out in force and hungry.

Had a great day up there skiing. Just wondering is it normal down here to all drive. In same ruts. We are down from north of PG and if we drove in the same ruts over and over the road would be shut down in no time. Up north we all spread our tracks out and the back roads stay open with out plowing them. If you guys from down here come north please stay off our back roads. Shame to see a good road wrecked by ruts.
