Grey creek road any idea when it will be fixedGrey creek road any idea when it will be fixed
Friday, December 31, 2010

Does this mean there is no ploughing for rest of season, I hope we do not get a snow storm like Mt Washington. Some years there can be 1 ft new snow everyday. I sure do not want to be stuck up there if rest of road slides away. If the road is not safe for the Plough truck is it safe for us.

WE need some HELP!WE need some HELP!
Alert / Warning Friday, December 31, 2010

Our Black ford explorer is stuck at lot #3 (Quonset). The front tie rod has lost a bolt, and as a result damaged the breaks. So we have no breaks.

All the local towing companies won't go up there for any less than 3 or 4 hundred dollars.

We were hoping to find a mechanic who could go up with Scott and try to fix it within the next few days. PLease call us if YOU can help out! We will pay but hopefully this is the cheaper option.

Happy new years!

A beautiful day on Dakota ridge. We (the SNOW SEEKERS SNOWMOBILE club) was trying, yet again, to find a new route around ALL groomed trails today and we unfortunately encountered a gentleman that was dead set against us being there at all. This is a shame, had he given us a minute to explain what we were doing, he might of realized that we trying to find yet another route around groomed runs as they keep expanding out to where we have previously ridden. our hope is that all people have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful area.

skiers and snowmobilesskiers and snowmobiles
Current Conditions Monday, January 03, 2011

I have been very impressed with the efforts that the snowmobile club has made to work with the other users of Dakota Ridge. The snowmobiles have every right to have access to the Ridge. They have been working to find a better access route to have less conflict with the skiers and other users. It is a bit of a challenge because of the terrain. There are ravines that cut off broad access. Yes we have to share the access with our neighbours the snowmobilers. Yes it will take some time to get it perfected.
Everyone that was on Dakota Ridge got there in a gas powered vehicle.
We need the snowmobilers just as much as all of the other users. The only way we will get the road and parking upgraded is if we work as a community together.
Dakota Ridge is a real asset to our community. Lets work together to make it work for everyone.

Current Conditions Tuesday, January 04, 2011

The snow conditions are great on Dakota Ridge. The Trails are in great shape thanks to the Groomers. Lets show the Groomers that we appreciate their work. Some of the Groomers are volunteers and are doing it because they love to see their community smiling. All of them do great work. When you see one of these fine folks don't say thanks, Give them a great big HUG.
The fine folks that are plowing the road are doing a great job and need to be hugged too. HUG A SNOW PLOW GUY TOO!

Tet RoadTet Road
Current Conditions Tuesday, January 04, 2011

There is no snow clearing on the Gray Creek Forest Service Road to access Tetrahedron Provincial Park. There is a large washout at 3km of the Gray Creek Road as a result of a recent rain event. The road is still open and passable for light cars and trucks with 4 wheel drive and chains, but it is not suitable for larger plough trucks (5 ton load limit). If you choose to drive beyond the washout, be aware that large amounts of snow may fall while you are in the park, and without snow ploughing, your vehicle could potentially get snowed in.

Current Conditions Thursday, January 06, 2011

Had a great ski on Dakota Ridge last night. The road had been freshly plowed and is in great shape.there is a large snowfall of 25 cm or more. Just need a bit of grooming and we will have an incredible weekend.
Bundle up the kids, grab the crazy carpets and sliders, grab the chains and the skis and well see you on the ridge.
Don't forget to call your council person and encourage them to put more money into a sliding area for the kids. They are the second largest group of users on the ridge. They are not someone else's children. They are our communities children. They are our future taxpayers and with the right opportunities they will be our future.
OUR CHILDREN COUNT. RECREATION IN A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT IS FAR BETTER THAN OBESITY. It is good for the parents too. Send an email or call your local councilor and lets make this a lot more of a child welcoming and supporting community. The children can't speak out for themselves. That is our job. It is time that we raised our voices for the kids.

From bridge up road has around 4 inches slushy snow ice mix. From top of Quary gets worse all wheel drive van with 4 chains on and I did not chance driving to Parking lot. 8-10 inches wet sloppy slushy ice and wet snow. Freezing level to come down tonight so all that slush will be frozen. Try to spread your tracks out to pack the road down evenly.

We drove up to the Tet parking lot around 2pm Jan 7. yes the road is slushy but we didn't need chains and didn't slip. Maybe Snowman left tracks for us. It was snowing lightly at the parking lot and a quick dig showed 6 inches of fresh snow on top of a hard packed wet layer. Temp was +1C.
If it freezes tonight the road will be treacherous and the snow will be crusty.
Watch the thermometer.

Current Conditions Saturday, January 08, 2011

It is obvious that we need to create a quick fix for the plowing of the Tetrahedron road. There is a choice. It is a bit labor intensive. We need a group of volunteers to help to dismantle the snow plow (Uimog) and to haul the pieces up the hill past the washout and reassemble it. We can haul the parts up in trailers or perhaps we could get them hauled by that giant logging helicopter. This isn't just about skiing. It is also about fighting obesity and keeping our community healthy.
We could call in the military to build a temporary bridge.
Of course we could just fix the road!

No we will not be taking the Unimog apart to move it across the slide area. Some people think a Unimog is a big heavy truck but infact it is only 6 ft wide with wide large tires that give it less ground impact then a small car. But we will just have to wait till road fixed. Guess now I can take that Hawaii vacation for 2 weeks.

18 vehicles parked at the top including one weiner in the turnaround area - duh.
another 7 vehicles with snowmobile trailers parked at branch 400.

so - the Tet is getting lots of activity despite the slough on the road and the lack of ploughing.
please park in such a manner that you don't take up 3 spots and block the turnaround on the right side of the bridge.

Conditions at 3400-4100ft: Hard crust 2-4', under that soft, powder, then another several layers of crust / ice. Total of 10 ft top of Mt Crucil. Cross ditches are nasty, they need wood palets so water can run free under. All you snowmobilers please help put these palets in those ditches! Thank you.
I hope that the washout gets fixed soon, for the sake of every user. Snowman could then return to do the great job that he does. Looking. Forward to next week, more snow in the forecast!

My 4 guests came back from the Tet early today. They were on their way to Edwards cabin, but were advised by some hikers that it had partiers, so they went to Bachelor cabin. A couple were there with their 2 very young children. Then some young men showed up who drank, smoked pot, threw up inside and outside of the cabin, urinated out the window of the cabin, and were belligerent when asked not to smoke in the sleeping loft. their language was also peppered with F-, which a parent typically likes to avoid with a young one around!

I am not worried for my guests, but I feel very badly for the young family, knowing what a huge undertaking a trip like that is with very young children.

I feel very sad that these young men felt it was their 'right' to behave this way, and ruined the weekend for my guests, and for the young family.

Alert / Warning Friday, January 14, 2011

On Wednesday evening there were 2 snowmobiles driving on the ski trails. One left when a large group of skiers arrived and we encountered the other when he passed us going the opposite direction on the ski trail. He came within a couple of feet of us at about 70km per hr. When we talked to him at the warming hut he told us he didn't know that it was a ski area. A group of him and his friends were in the warming hut. All of them had been seen here before.
They are obviously NOT members of the snowmobile club. The snowmobile club members have worked very hard to have good relations with the skiers and know that they are not allowed on the ski trails. The snowmobile club members are not the problem. It is just a few individuals that think they can do whatever they want with no reprecussions.
Who Are these guys. I got a picture! Can you identify this guy?
