Safe driving on Back roads Current Conditions Thursday, November 21, 2013
Safe Driving on Back roads they are often to narrow for 2 vehicles to pass at a fast speed. Please slow down when approaching other vehicles. Watch for hikers, bikers, horse back riders etc. The following is from MOF website.
DRIVE AT A SAFE SPEED Since most forest roads are not posted with speed limit signs, it’s the responsibility of the driver to travel at speeds that reflect road conditions. Where there are posted signs, you must obey them. You should always use caution and expect the unexpected. You must be able to stop safely in any emergency or in encountering unforeseen obstructions.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO STOP SAFELY IN ANY EMERGENCY just because a sign says 50 does not mean you have to drive that fast.

We went up McNair rd in Port Mellon in September and the road was in good shape. We parked at the dam and walked up to McNair Cabin in 3 hours. If you have a good clearance 4x4 you can drive up a bit further then the dam.
