Beauty New Years - quiet one Friday, January 02, 2015
Had an awesome moonlit night at Edwards for new years. Only the 4 of our group there. Where is everyone??! (Suppose it's good there herds of Vancouver people don't know about these beauty huts?)
Road conditions are good until last 2 km before lower parking, where some ice might cause issues without going into 4x4 mode at the very least. Ski/hiking tracks are pretty much set to the Edwards and Steele cabin - recommend snowshoes up to Steele due to steepness - though snowfall will change that! Thanks to all the volunteers for their work on upkeep of cabins.
Comment- both large snowmelt pots at Edwards have holes in the bottom of them - the larger pot a small leak. Steele has two lanterns (one colemam, 1 msr), games and a few more pots. Would be nice if there was a lantern in Edwards. I will bring one next time I'm up (which may not be this year though...). A cheap frying pan might be nice too for bacon :) no whining, just comments - there's some outstanding huts out there and steele is top notch for it's scenery.

Dakota road and rules of road Alert / Warning Tuesday, January 06, 2015
If it is that iced up all drivers should use chains and Slow Down many vehicles drive way to fast . Under MOF act you are to drive at a speed you can stop at under any emergency conditions. Use headlights and pullover when you can but sometimes it is hard to do that. Useing Chains will give you safety and control. Speed going up hills coverd in snow only gets you in trouble faster. If you use 1 set of chains on front drive axle you have steering and resonable braking. Test your traction before you hit the snow coverd hills. Give lots of room between other vehicles do not bunch up. Always best to chain up before you need the chains. Some people have been injured when some vehicles had to stop and other could not. Expect the un expected around every corner. Do not think just because you are going downhill people will give you the right of way.

Steele conditions from Jan 10th/11th Current Conditions Tuesday, January 13, 2015
My friend and I skied to the Steele hut and spent the night on Saturday. Snow coverage was (barely) enough to skin from lower parking lot and through the summer trail to Edwards. The lake did not look like a wise idea to cross: some open areas and plenty of water atop the remaining ice. Snow condition in the alpine above the Steel hut was supportable crust and no worries about snow depth or avalanches. Hut was in tip-top shape and despite 11 people partying in it Sat night, it cleaned up well. The ski down to Edwards was treacherous with breakable crust then heavy mank that threatened to rip off one's knee. Also, snow depth is lacking which meant many sticks and brush to trip one up. We skied to the car out of pure laziness but received some rock scars on our skis. If the weather stays warm you will be walking the road between upper and lower lots, maybe more. The road to the lower lot was easily passable in a Subaru with all season tires and no chains.
Thanks to Tet Outdoor club for the wonderful huts! Wish we had facilities like these south of the border. First time here and will have to come back when there's more/better snow. Donation has been paypal-ed!
Cheers, Peter / Bellinghammarfest WA

ride to Dakota ? Current Conditions Saturday, January 17, 2015
My husband and I are coming to the area next weekend (Jan 24/25) and are looking to snowshoe at Dakota Ridge on either Saturday or Sunday. Our car isn't suitable for the drive up, and we've just found out that the shuttles have been booked out by private groups so right now there isn't a way to get up there. If anyone has any ideas on how we could get up there and back (or can offer a ride - we'd pay!), please send me an email at counsellorchristine@gmail.com. We've already booked accommodation for the weekend and had put our names down for a shuttle beforehand but it sounds like because a group booked it all, we then got bumped. Please help! Thanks!!! ~Christine

Alpha adventure posted 2 pics from today on there Face book page. posted snow info seems trails not very good +5'c and some water running etc.
Hope someone that has been to the Tet latley can post info heard there was a cabin steward up at Mt Steele for 10 days or more but never posted any info Sure would be nice to know how much snow was around the cabins and trails up there. And if it was any colder up at Steele compared to Edwards etc. Lets hope some people post info. Please remember to pay cabins fees and haul garbage out. Leave the cabins in better shape then you find them. Split some kidling and have wood ready for next group to get stove going. If you are gong up for a long time let the Tet club know that so they do not send S&R looking for owners of Vehicles left in parking lot for long periods of time.

Weather over the week of January 12th Current Conditions Wednesday, January 28, 2015
We were up to Edwards, Steele and Bachelor from the 12th of January to the 15th, 2015. There perhaps a 1.2 ft of snow at Edwards, a little more at Steele and less at Bachelor. No one had tried to cross the ice and one of us went through the ice at Bachelor trying to get water at the pond, so avoid the winter routes. At that time, there was little avalanche danger on Steele and the Edwards creek crossing was manageable. However, this could change quickly. At least Challenging avalanche terrain exists on the Mt. Steele route!
