Steele was beautiful on the weekend Sunday, May 08, 2016
Four of us did Steele overnight on the Friday. There was a group of six already in the cabin, so it was quite comfortable. Thanks to Dan for the mattresses -- it's nice not to have to carry a Thermarest! It was quite warm overnight, and we were comfortable upstairs with both windows open. The white stuff outside which had been fairly soft in the afternoon froze again by morning (which made going downhill on the way out a bit easier).
The road to the summer lot on the way in was entirely bare. There was intermittent snow from the Batchelor junction to the Edwards cabin, and pretty much steady snow from just above the Steele Creek crossing (which doesn't exist at the moment) all the way to the top. We snowshoed, but it was just as easy to boot-pack since there wasn't much post-holing going on. It was actually safer to boot-pack on the way down as the snowshoes tended to slide on the slushier stuff. All in all, a beautiful trip!

Bush very dry use extra caution Alert / Warning Thursday, May 19, 2016
There has already been 2 small bush fires. One was up by Dakota ridge. Don't throw butts out. Make sure all campfires are out and be prepared with water buckets or shovels. Never leave a campfire to burn out. Put it out cold before you leave.
